Berlin, Dusseldorf Offshore wind power is to transcend national borders in the future. The electricity network operators 50Hertz, Amprion and Tennet presented corresponding plans on Monday together with the Federal Ministry of Economics.

The aim is to network offshore wind farms with each other in order to facilitate the exchange of electricity with countries such as Denmark or the Netherlands. In addition, networking at sea should result in the power lines there being better utilized and used more efficiently.

Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) said that the energy system would be “transformed in solidarity with our European neighbors”. Wind energy at sea will play a decisive role in the climate-neutral energy system.
