Munich After the historic union disaster in the federal election, CSU boss Markus Söder is now pleading for a new cooperation between the two sister parties CDU and CSU. “In terms of style and content, we should move closer together again instead of talking publicly about each other,” said Söder of “Welt am Sonntag”. “The CSU will therefore not give any public advice, but – if so desired – help to stabilize the Union.”

“That was a unique election campaign that we will all work through together,” said Söder. “But it is important that we get away from the blame and talk to each other again.” With a traffic light government, there could be a political change of epochs, so it is important that the CDU and CSU show a new unity. “We have to become the bulwark against a left slide in Germany,” said Söder.
Söder, who is accused of repeated taunts against Laschet, said at a state assembly of the Bavarian Young Union (JU) last weekend: “It’s just like this: In the end, the Germans wanted a different candidate for chancellor than the one that the CDU and CSU have put up . ”He also drew a lot of criticism because he greeted the JU federal chairman Tilman Kuban with the words that for him he was“ today, so to speak, the CDU chairman ”. Söder announced that he would not strive for a fundamental blockade against a federal government made up of the SPD, Greens and FDP in the Federal Council. “The Federal Council must not be used across the board as a blocking instrument. Söder calls for measures against rising energy prices

The ecological question must not become a new social question. He also demanded: “We need a real gas price brake for a cold winter.”
When asked whether the Union would re-elect Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Söder said: “In the office of Federal President there should not be party-political bargaining.” Steinmeier enjoyed a high reputation as Federal President. “I would be surprised if the traffic light suggested someone other than him.”
