Berlin Despite the economic impact of the energy crisis, the number of unemployed in Germany continued to fall in October. The Federal Employment Agency (BA) registered 2.442 million unemployed last month, as the authority announced on Wednesday in Nuremberg. That is 43,000 fewer than in September, but 65,000 more than a year ago. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 5.3 percent.

“Overall, the labor market remains robust, and employment in particular continues to grow,” explained BA boss Andrea Nahles. However, the consequences of the economic uncertainties are visible: “More companies are preparing for possible short-time work and reducing their demand for new staff.”

Taking into account the seasonal fluctuations, the number of unemployed rose slightly by 8,000 in a monthly comparison, according to the BA.
