Ukraine is failing to mass-produce new drones

Berlin Since the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has signed 16 contracts with domestic drone manufacturers. The plan is to spend around 446 million euros to produce 75 different types of drones.

Mikhail Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation, reports that by the end of January 2023, a total of around 1700 drones had been ordered as part of the Army of Drones project and almost 1000 of them had already been handed over to the Ukrainian military. According to Fedorov, more than 60 percent of the drones come from Ukrainian manufacturers.

However, according to Igor Lutsenko, the founder of the Air Reconnaissance Support Center, the announced state initiatives will not solve the problem. The military officer sees that even reconnaissance drones are consumables whose life expectancy rarely exceeds several weeks.
