Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) wants two of a total of four floating LNG terminals to go into operation in Germany this year. “Of course, the goal is for them to be connected this year – at the turn of the year,” Habeck told journalists in Brussels on Monday evening.

This makes it possible to feed gas into the European gas network via the German ports. The aim of the federal government is to reduce dependence on Russian gas supplies. One of the two ships is going to Brunsbüttel, the other to Wilhelmshaven, Habeck confirmed. According to Habeck, the other two ships should arrive “in May”.

As a rule, the construction of the necessary infrastructure takes five years, said the minister. Now it should happen within a few months, almost “at the speed of light”: “We are doing something here that Germany has not experienced for a long time,” said Habeck.
