Wilmington According to a US court, Twitter only has to hand over certain data in the dispute over the planned purchase by Tesla boss Elon Musk. The responsible judge in the state of Delaware instructed the short message service on Thursday to release the data from 9,000 user accounts as requested by Musk.

These were used in 2021 as part of an investigation into possible spam or fake accounts. The judge dismissed other of Musk’s claims as “absurdly broad.” After the verdict was announced, Twitter shares rose by one percent.

The percentage of fake accounts on Twitter is a key issue in the legal battle over whether Musk should go through with the $44 billion failed acquisition. He accuses Twitter of withholding information about how it calculates the number of spam accounts.
