Dusseldorf With cancellations of the so-called “Tui Card”, Commerzbank has been causing unrest in the travel market since the end of last week. According to the travel agency association VUSR, the Frankfurt credit institute has terminated current credit card contracts for numerous holidaymakers. “We are receiving inquiries about this from our member companies nationwide,” said Marija Linnhoff, head of the association, to the Handelsblatt.

The Visa co-branded card includes extensive travel insurance, allows free cash withdrawals from Commerzbank ATMs and waives the foreign currency fee when traveling abroad. However, Commerzbank does not give a reason why it is “closing the account with effect from May 31, 2022” in its notice of termination.

Instead, she relies on her right to terminate the credit card contract at any time, subject to a two-month notice period. “We ask that you return the remaining credit card to us by May 31, 2022,” the letter said.
