Berlin, Munich, Tokyo The plans of the Taiwanese group TSMC for a plant in Germany are becoming more concrete. According to information from government circles in the Handelsblatt, the chip manufacturer is planning a joint venture with Bosch and the microelectronics companies NXP and Infineon at the Dresden location.

TSMC is currently negotiating with politicians for government support. TSMC could apparently invest seven billion euros in the new plant in Saxony. The sum could ultimately rise to up to ten billion euros if all costs are taken into account. The Bloomberg news agency first reported on the plans. A final decision for the location has not yet been made, according to government circles.

Politicians have high hopes that TSMC will settle there. The company is one of the world’s largest chip producers and the most important supplier of the US electronics group Apple, but so far without any production in Europe.
