Triell between Laschet, Scholz, Baerbock: crash in the fight for the Chancellery – domestic politics

The battle for the Chancellery has never been so violent!

In the second TV triall Above all, the Union’s candidate for chancellor, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, went Armin Laschet (60, CDU) and SPD, Federal Minister of Finance Olaf Scholz (63) violently attack each other again and again.

Laschet struggled, was visibly brushed for a riot against Scholz, who tried to put away the attacks almost unmoved.

▶ ︎ In the end, nothing helped: In the lightning survey by Infratest Dimap among spectators of the exchange of blows, Laschet again fell behind Scholz. 41 percent found the SPD man most convincing, far behind Laschet at 27 percent, closely followed by Green top candidate Annalena Baerbock (40), who received 25 percent support.

ALWAYS: At the first triell, Laschet was still in last place behind her.

While Baerbock repeatedly threw their motto “New beginning instead of continuing like this” into the debate, Laschet and Scholz made the evening their duel again and again!

► Topic coalition: “You don’t have to be asked the question at all,” Laschet Scholz approached right from the start when asked whether he was ruling out an alliance with the Left Party, “you have already answered that. You don’t rule it out. You will make a coalition with the left, even if the SPD only came in second. “

Scholz evaded, referring to the voting decision of the citizens (“The absurd things have already become clear.”)

Would Laschet be willing to join a GroKo as a junior partner under a Chancellor Scholz? Laschet: “First of all we want to fight.”

IN CLEAR TEXT: No clear rejection!

Scholz, on the other hand, evaded the question of which comrades he would bring into his cabinet. SPD leader Saskia Esken (60) maybe? Scholz: “You get Olaf Scholz as Chancellor”.

► It really crashed between the two men when the language came up about the latest searches in the Federal Ministry of Finance, which Scholz tried to evade with extensive descriptions of his policy.

He took over the authority from his predecessor, at that time 160 employees, now it will soon have 700 employees.

Laschet zu Scholz “As a minister, like any other specialist minister, you have the supervisory authority doing its job.”

Scholz, otherwise calm, stepped out from behind his desk, his ears were visibly red. “Mr. Laschet, you are twisting the facts …”

“Was the public prosecutor’s office in your house?” – Laschet followed up with this question several times, and did not give up until Scholz intervened and tried to explain that the raids were not aimed at him.

Laschet dryly: “If my finance minister worked like you, we would have a serious problem.”

► On the other hand, Laschet became significantly more monosyllabic when asked about the Bundestag candidacy of ex-constitutional protection chief Hans-Georg Maaßen (58, CDU). “He’s a member of the CDU,” he says, and wants to leave it at that. But the moderators Maybrit Illner (56, ZDF) and Oliver Köhr (45, ARD) do not give up.

Whether Maaßen is in the middle of the party. “He’s not in the middle of the party,” adds Laschet. “This constituency decided in favor of Mr. Maassen and we have to respect that.”

Schleswig-Holstein’s Education Minister Karin Prien (56, CDU) does not want to throw Laschet out of his future team, as Maaßen had called for, because she indirectly called for the election of the SPD opponent Maassen. “Karin Prien stays in the future team.”

All three were guilty of a clear answer about the costs that citizens must expect for more climate protection.

ALWAYS: The topic of migration was not left out this time. “We have to advertise for qualified immigration in the world,” said Laschet. But: “The asylum law has no upper limit.”
