Trial: Hambach forest activist defends himself against a fine | Regional

Aachen / Hambach – In the first instance before the Düren district court, he was sentenced for resistance to 50 daily rates of 50 euros each: Gernot K. (27) from Cologne. During the evacuation in the Hambach Forest, he was chained to a tree house on September 28, 2018.

The activist appealed against this. The appeal hearing was held in front of the Aachen regional court on Thursday.

Gernot K. appeared with a private person, as a lay defender. That is permissible in court. He did not provide any information about the person or the charge. Old testimonies were read out and videos from the Hambach Forest were viewed. The defendant made over twenty new requests for evidence. The trial lasted until late afternoon without a new verdict.

At the beginning of September, the Cologne Administrative Court declared the evacuation of the Hambach Forest in 2018 to be unlawful. It is questionable whether this will help the activist.
