Trench air defense system range announced!

Defense Industry President İsmail Demir shared detailed information about MMU and domestic HSSs during his statements today. The most striking among them was the range of the Siper air defense system. It was also compared with its European competitor. Here are the details…

What is the trench air defense system and how is it used?

In order to understand the importance of the trench air defense system, we need to look at the characteristics of 6 different domestic systems in Turkey’s hands. KORKUT is in the first place. It is mounted on an HSS armored tracked vehicle. It is equipped with a 35 mm KDC-02 type double-barreled weapon system. It can provide effective protection against all aircraft within 4 km by making 1100 beats per minute.

SUNGUR comes right after. This HSS was built on an armored vehicle, again keeping mobility ahead. It can hit all targets within 8 kilometers with its missiles signed by Roketsan. Afterwards, we switch to slightly more high-tech systems.

Bayraktar Kızılelma is on the runway! First flight date

Bayraktar Kızılelma, a domestic unmanned fighter aircraft developed by Baykar, took to the runway for the first time today. Here are the details…

The HİSAR family begins here. In the first step, HİSAR A+ has a minimum range of 2 km and a maximum range of 15 km. HİSAR O+, which is in second place, has a minimum range of 3 km and a maximum range of 25 km. In fact, the range of HİSAR RF (Radar seeker head) which is the latest developed version is up to 35 kilometers.

In the last layer, there is the Air Defense System, which was initially developed under the name HİSAR U, but later known as SİPER. In the version of SİPER, which appears as Blok1, the minimum range is 30 km, and the maximum range is exactly 100 km. Of course, the range will be increased to 150 km and above with Blok2 and Blok3 which will be taken into inventory in the second and third stages.

In addition, there are 2 different radars that are planned to be used in SİPER. The first of these is said to be 600 km Long Range and Land Based Air Defense Radar. The other is the ÇAFRAD radar with a range of 450+ km and the ability to track 1000+ targets at the same time, which will be located on the TF-2000 destroyer, while the project model creation and feasibility studies continue.

Who are the competitors of the trench air defense system?

According to the statement made by the President of Defense Industries, İsmail Demir, the Trench Block 2 or Block 3 systems, which will be put into service between 2026 and 2027, will be in the S-400 setting. In fact, the first version that entered the inventory has already reached the SAMP-T level.

The range of the trench air defense system exceeded 100 kilometers!

It is said that it has achieved similar capabilities with SAMP-T, which was discussed for purchase and co-production in 2015. However, it was stated that new capabilities will be continuously developed related to protection against ballistic missiles launched from higher altitudes, longer ranges and from greater distances.

Because some of these ballistic missiles move much faster by aiming at the target from space, not from the airspace. In other words, Turkey is currently capable of producing a SAMP-T competitor. For this reason, it was said that the possible co-production agreement with Eurosam is not intended for the current version, but for the system with ballistic response capability.

When will the trench air defense system enter the inventory?

The Trench Air Defense System will first enter the inventory in 2023. In this way, Turkey will be able to produce self-sufficient layered defense systems with domestic means, apart from ballistic missile protection. However, it is expected to move to the next level in the near future.
