EC-KAC Dominates in the Kärntner Derby

On Wednesday evening, the EC-KAC showcased an extraordinary performance in the win2day ICE Hockey league, extending their winning streak in spectacular fashion. The Red Jackets faced off against the EC VSV in the historic 358th Kärntner Derby, and the result was a resounding 8:0 victory in front of a packed crowd at the Heidi Horten Arena.

Match Highlights and Key Moments

The Red Jackets wasted no time in taking charge of the game, scoring just 23 seconds into the first period. Mathias From made a decisive move into the offensive zone, firing a shot from the faceoff point that sneaked past Jean-Philippe Lamoureux (1). Although Oliver Lam (3) and Nick Petersen (10) threatened to add to the score, it was Clemens Unterweger who doubled the lead to 2:0 with a goal from Simeon Schwinger after a faceoff win (11).

In a commanding display, the EC-KAC capitalized on their first powerplay opportunity. Daniel Obersteiner maneuvered into the left corner, delivering a perfect pass to Thimo Nickl, who found the back of the net for his inaugural goal with the main team (16). Villach’s best chance in the first period came from Felix Maxa, but his shot was expertly blocked by Maximilian Preiml (19).

The second period maintained the momentum, with Thomas Hundertpfund narrowly missing from close range (21). Mathias From continued to threaten, ultimately leading to another goal following a video review that confirmed his shot found the back of the net (24). Just moments later, Simeon Schwinger scored again, tapping in a rebound after a deflected shot by Obersteiner (25).

Villach’s goalkeeper faced a tough challenge, and after the EC-KAC scored their sixth goal through Clemens Unterweger during a powerplay (30), it became clear they were in control. Although Villach attempted to respond, they only found real opportunities during a powerplay, which ended without a shot on goal (39).

As the third period unfolded, Sebastian Dahm made several crucial saves, including one against Nikita Scherbak (42). Despite Villach’s attempts, including a missed shot from Felix Maxa (46) and a close call from Chase Pearson (49), the Red Jackets continued to dominate. Maximilian Preiml added to their tally with a beautifully deflected goal from the blue line (54).

With the crowd roaring in support, the Red Jackets capped off their victory by scoring during their third powerplay with just 15 seconds left on the clock. Oliver Lam set up Senna Peeters, who sealed the game with a shot into an open net, finalizing the score at an impressive 8:0 (60).
