The bill that will ban TikTok completely from January 1, 2024 has been signed by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte. Governor Gianforte stated that they signed this decision to protect the private data and sensitive personal information of the Montana people from being collected by the Chinese Communist Party.
The governor used the following statement in his statement on his Twitter account;
“I banned TikTok in Montana to protect Montanas’ personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party.“
In this context, downloading TikTok within state borders is prohibited. App stores and TikTok will face fines if they make it easier to download. People who use TikTok will not be penalized.
US officials emphasize that ByteDance may be open to the intervention of the Chinese government, and in this context, they have been expressing national security risk concerns for a long time. Some believe that Chinese authorities have access to TikTok user data belonging to US citizens and may even influence the app’s algorithm to serve pro-Chinese content. TikTok denies these accusations.
