Tiger King Star: Carole Baskin Sues Netflix – Folks

She was never a fan of the series …

Carole Baskin (60) was one of the main characters in the famous big cat documentary “Tiger King”. Now Netflix is planning to release a second season, Baskin should also play a role in it. But that doesn’t suit the self-proclaimed animal rights activist at all. Now she’s even going to court because of it.

In her lawsuit against the streaming provider, Baskin explains that the interview recordings of her that can be seen in the trailer for the second season are material that did not make it into the first part of the series. According to her, the producers just made it look like she’d given them new interviews.

However, Baskin had not agreed to a collaboration with Netflix for another “Tiger King” season, which should be released on November 17th.

As the industry journal “Variety” writes, the release form that Baskin and her husband signed at the time only refer to the first season of the documentation. “There is no mention of Royal Goode Production granting rights to sequels or additional seasons or episodes,” the complaint said.

Baskin is now demanding that Netflix and Royal Goode Productions remove all footage of her and her animal welfare organization “Big Cat Rescue” from “Tiger King 2”.

The lawsuit also states that she and her animal welfare organization had already been misrepresented in Part 1.

In her opinion, the entire series had undermined its real mission: to protect the big cats from the likes of Joe Exotic. The series makers would also have made it look like Big Cat Rescue kept its animals in very small cages, which would actually live in spacious enclosures. For this reason, Baskin publicly criticized the documentary even before the announcement of a second season.

Whether Baskin is delaying the release of the second season with her lawsuit – or even preventing it completely remains to be seen.

22 years in jail for a murder assignment

According to Netflix, the documentary “Tiger King” had 64 million views by the end of April alone. She made the blood feud of Baskin, who runs a sanctuary for big cats in Florida, and Joe Exotic world famous. Baskin had persecuted Exotic for years for its questionable practices in breeding and raising big cats and other animals.

Exotic struck back against Baskin. He hounded his rival on social media and on television – and is said to have hired a hit man to murder her.

The court ruled in January 2019 that Exotic paid an employee $ 3,000 to get Baskin out of the world. The contract killing (never carried out) earned him 22 years in prison.

In June 2020, a court in the US state of Oklahoma finally awarded the self-proclaimed animal rights activist Baskin the zoo, which once belonged to Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage (aka “Tiger King” Joe Exotic). The verdict ends a copyright dispute between the two big cat lovers. Baskin was thus granted control of the approximately 6.5 hectares of land in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, on which Exotics Zoo is located.
