Insomnia is almost always the first symptom, says Alexandra Held. An older woman in Mayschoss has been able to sleep a maximum of one hour a night for twelve weeks. And even then, her dreams would keep revolving around that night.

A man from Altenahr needs seven beers to be able to fall asleep. Others have no drive. Held tells of a worried grandmother who recently came to see her in Dernau. Her granddaughter hadn’t got out of bed for three weeks. An alarm signal. But also everyday life in the Ahr valley, where Held is currently working as a psychologist.
