You may recall that Instagram’s X rival platform Threads was closed for users in Turkey by the decision of the Competition Authority. We have not been able to access Threads since April 29, 2024. The day after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads’ user count reached 170 million, the platform, which was closed in Turkey, officially reached this milestone.
Threads continues to grow, reaching 200 million users
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri confirmed on Threads that Twitter rival Threads has reached 200 million active users, a figure it achieved in just 13 months, according to Meta.
Threads’ global growth continues unabated. The platform reached 150 million users in April 2024 and surpassed 175 million users on its first anniversary in July. With the growth experienced in the last month, Threads reached 200 million active users.
Threads’ main competitor, X (formerly Twitter), had more than 600 million monthly users in May. Meta aims to offer Threads as an alternative online discussion space for its users.
Last year, Zuckerberg said Threads had the potential to reach over a billion users. In the latest earnings call, the Meta CEO said the platform is on a good growth trajectory and that they are seeing deeper engagement. Zuckerberg added that they are improving the content recommendation system to keep users on the platform longer.
Meta hopes to bring Threads back to its users in Turkey as soon as possible. What do you think? Did you like Threads? Would you like to continue using it? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
