With all the annoyance about the traffic light government’s dawdling about compulsory vaccinations: In the end, what counts is what comes out. When all the time thinking and muddling around leads to a law that does its job, the dawdling is quickly forgotten.

And the purpose is to increase the vaccination rate in such a way that the country can calmly look forward to waves to come, without having to accept any restrictions. This requires mandatory vaccination that is as effective as possible, without taking false account of all those who do not want to be vaccinated.

However, the proposals that are currently circulating in the ranks of the traffic light government sound more like duty than duty. For example, there is talk of punishing an offense in the same way as going through the traffic light when it is red. If you get caught, you have to pay – if you get caught. This is a very bad example, who hasn’t gone over red?

Not to be vaccinated is more than that, namely an attack on the freedom of all those who want their everyday life back despite Corona. That is how it should be punished.

Anyone who does not adhere to the mandatory vaccination must experience disadvantages that go beyond fines. He will no longer be allowed to travel or fly by buses and trains and be able to practice his profession.

A compulsory vaccination must create legal certainty to exclude unvaccinated people from all parts of public life, as hard as that sounds. A vaccination register would also help to implement the obligation. Without one, it’s hard to find out who hasn’t been vaccinated.

The traffic light parties shy away from it, such a register is considered too expensive and tedious to implement. You can see it that way, but the traffic light doesn’t have an alternative either. What does she need all that time for, if not exactly for such questions? If these ideas remain, the traffic light government can save its months of botch – it risks a law that fails to work.
