The network update, dubbed “Hygee,” is touted as the biggest update in the history of the Filecoin network and represents a major milestone as the network becomes programmable for the first time.

With the release of FVM, developers will now be able to migrate existing EVM contracts without modification and connect them to the Filecoin network and storage services.

Filecoin developers also announced the second wave of FVM micro-grants with 20 grants worth $5,000 each. Developers developing with FVM are invited to apply for a chance to win one of these grants to help their project take the next step.

Milestone 2.2 is scheduled to launch later this year, allowing developers to deploy custom smart contracts written in Rust, AssemblyScript or Go and compiled into WASM bytecode, according to the developers’ statement.
