These symbols and memes of the Ukraine war went down in history

The war not only changed Ukrainians, but also their language. New words have entered the vocabulary and memes born of the war have appeared on social media. They show pain, but also strength.

February: “Russian warship, f**k you!”

On the first day of the war, the first meme was born – a cheeky and obscene one. “Russian warship, f**k you!” That was the answer of a Ukrainian border guard to the crew of the Russian cruiser “Moskva” over loudspeaker radio. The ship had approached Snake Island and also reported by radio: “I am a Russian warship. I propose that you lay down your arms and surrender.”

Although the Russians had taken the Black Sea island that same day, the slogan became a symbol of resistance.
