Munich The calls for state subsidies for the housing industry are getting louder. Today, Wednesday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Minister for Building Klara Geywitz (both SPD) will present the results that a group from business, politics and civil society has worked out under the name Alliance for Affordable Housing. After Sparkasse President Helmut Schleweis had called for a reduction in real estate transfer tax and targeted subsidy programs, for example from KfW, in an interview with the Handelsblatt on Tuesday, MLP boss Uwe Schroeder-Wildberg is now speaking up. If he has his way, citizens willing to build should be supported by the state, for example by making loan interest tax deductible for self-use. This is the only way to advance the already low home ownership rate of only 42 percent in Germany. The opposite is currently the case.
