These eight Chinese cars are coming to Germany soon

Dusseldorf After the Chinese electrical specialist BYD, the Great Wall group has now also announced that it will be bringing some models to Europe this year. The Chinese have entered into a cooperation with the Emil Frey Group, one of the largest car dealers in Germany.

While many electric models in Europe can only be obtained after a long wait due to the ongoing shortage of chips, the Chinese are relying on a cheap overall package – but by no means only on cheap models. From small electric cars to mid-range SUVs to sporty sedans, Chinese brands want to occupy all segments.

In China, manufacturers have long dominated their home market. There are very few foreign models among the best-selling electric cars in China.

An overview of which models from China are entering the European market – and which are already available today.

With the German chief designer Wolfgang Egger, the design language of the Chinese manufacturer has also evolved. Egger once worked on the design of the Audi E-Tron and has been shaping the face of the Chinese electric car manufacturer since 2016.

The BYD Tang shows what that could look like. The SUV has been available in Norway since the beginning of 2021 – but should come to Germany in 2022. The Chinese are still keeping a low profile on the price. In Norway, the model is converted 57,760 euros but by no means a bargain.

Because the technical key data of the model should convince: With the 86.4 kWh battery from their own production, the Chinese promise a range of more than 400 kilometers. And the model does particularly well when it’s cold: According to a study by the Norwegian automobile club NAF, the loss of range was even lower than that of the Tesla Model Y.

BYD Seal

The recently unveiled electric car is to compete against the Tesla Model 3.

BYD Seal

The Seal should occupy the middle class for BYD. The entry-level version of the sedan with 204 hp is at least in the home market of China the equivalent of 32,000 euros significantly cheaper than a Tesla Model 3. Even the entry-level version with rear-wheel drive promises a range of 550 kilometers thanks one 61.4 kWh battery. With the larger battery version (83 kilowatt hours), the long-range version reaches ranges of 700 kilometers, promises the manufacturer. A variant with all-wheel drive is also available.

As with Tesla, the battery is to be installed directly in the body. With a length of 4.80 meters, the car also offers enough space. Germany should be one of the first European markets for the model, according to the company. The Seal could probably be ordered before the end of this year.

MG4 Electric

With the model, the Chinese are expanding their already successful range of electric models in Germany.

MG4 Electric

The former traditional British brand has belonged to the Chinese car giant SAIC for several years and is currently celebrating a comeback with electric cars in Europe. Models like the MG5 and the MG ZS EV ensure that the company sold more cars in Germany in the first half of the year than brands like Honda or Jaguar.

The MG4 should continue this success in the middle class. With a length of 4.27 meters, the compact model competes directly against the VW ID.3. The manufacturer does not reveal prices yet, with approx 30,000 euros the model should be cheaper than the competitor from Wolfsburg. Two battery variants are offered: 51kWh for a range of up to 350 kilometers and 64kWh for 450 kilometers Range.

With fast loading times and many extras you want to challenge the Germans in the Golf class. The MG4 is scheduled to hit the German market at the end of 2022.

No ET7

With a lot of technology, the model wants to compete against the western competition.

No ET7

The Chinese manufacturer wants to compete with the premium brands: The brand’s flagship is to compete against the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Taycan. Not only a strong system performance should help 648 hpwhich accelerates the car from 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds.

The manufacturer also wants to install a series-ready solid-state battery for the first time – a technology that other manufacturers are still working on. So should 100 kilowatt hours for a range of up to 700 kilometers worries. And also Top speeds of 200 kilometers per hour are possible. German customers will probably have to wait until 2024 for the top version.

Great Wall plans to launch a cute compact car in Europe in 2022. The price is also here with around 30,000 euros self-confident – and on par with the electric Mini Cooper SE or the Opel Corsa-e. With a length of 4.20 meters, the design model is even slightly larger than the two European competitors.

The other technical data are impressive: 400 km range the manufacturer promises – at least with the large battery from 63 kilowatt hours. But even the entry-level version still offers 300 kilometers Range. When it comes to connectivity, a lot is built in that others pay dearly for: parking sensors, a 20.5-inch touchscreen – and even radar systems for intelligent assistants.

Wey Coffee 01

In 2021, the Chinese premium brand from Great Wall dared to make a big appearance at the IAA in Munich and unveiled the Coffee 01. The Chinese do not want to take much time with the market entry in Europe. It is now clear that they are serious about it.

The Wey Coffee 01 is intended to establish itself in the upper middle class. The environment is difficult: on the one hand, the purchase premium for the plug-in hybrid is running out, on the other hand, the competition in the segment is fierce. The Coffee 01 is expected to be available for a starting price of around 50,000 euros will be available.

The purely electric range, on the other hand, is higher than that of most competing models. 150 kilometers should the SUV with only one load of 41kWh battery come and thanks to a system performance of 450 hp Sprint from 0 to 100 in five seconds. In addition to the G3, XPeng also sells the P7, a sporty electric sedan, in Norway 435 hp, all-wheel drive and, on request, gullwing doors. To have is model from 46,000 euros – and it could also come to Germany.

The Zeekr 001, which premiered under the name Lynk Zero Concept, could come to Europe in 2023, Chinese media reports. It is the first model to be built on the SEA platform, on which the new Smart #1 is also based.

Visually, some consider the Chinese model to be a clone of the Porsche Panamera. In China, however, it has already been sold over 20,000 times and takes second place in the sales ranking. The technical details should not only convince in China: The entry-level version will be sold in China 39,000 euros sold – but reaches a range of over 700 kilometers.

The Zeekr is also available in three variants and with two battery sizes: 86 and 100 kilowatt hours. Even if the range of the two all-wheel drive variants is lower. With an acceleration from 0 to 100 in under four seconds and fast loading times, the model also wants to attract European customers.
