In no other sector did the founders become more interested than in environmental technology.
Dusseldorf Environmental technology is the big trend for new start-ups and investments in Germany. This emerges from the annual report of the analysis company Startupdetector, which is available exclusively to the Handelsblatt. “After 20 years of digitization, the next big wave of innovation could be the decarbonization of industry,” says Jan Miczaika of HV Capital, the most active venture capital firm in Germany.
Based on the commercial register, the data shows which companies were founded and financed in 2021. A total of 3,348 new start-ups were registered, eleven percent more than in the previous year. The number of companies that were able to attract external investors increased even more, namely by 27 percent to 2,087.
After a slump at the beginning of the pandemic, more than 800 start-ups are now being founded every quarter. That is a good three percent of all start-ups that are characterized by their innovative character in terms of business model, product or service and high growth potential. The number of financings continues to rise and stood at 671 in the fourth quarter.
