Berlin Climate protection, digitization, old-age provision – big issues could have played a big role in this election campaign. But strong content was a minor matter. Instead, bold banter and the search for personal mistakes prevailed among political opponents.

It may therefore have been an unimportant campaign. But it is not his result. The election result is a turning point in many ways.

These four lessons can be drawn from this:

1. Laschet was the wrong candidate

For the CDU and CSU, things didn’t really go well in this election campaign. Even on the day of the federal election, Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet failed. When casting his vote in his polling station in Aachen, he folded the ballot so that when it was thrown into the urn, his crosses for the CDU could be seen. The scene on Sunday promptly sparked discussions on the internet.
