Dusseldorf The proportion of Apple shares in the portfolio of star investor Warren Buffett continued to grow in the first quarter. As of March 31, his holding company Berkshire Hathaway owned 916 million shares in the iPhone maker — 20 million more than at the end of December. This emerges from documents from the US Securities and Exchange Commission, which were published on Monday evening.

That position was valued at more than $150 billion at the end of the quarter — by far the largest position in the Berkshire portfolio. The company now holds almost six percent of Apple. The recent surge in holdings comes after Berkshire combined the stock holdings of its insurance subsidiary Gen Re for the first time.

The 92-year-old actually stocked another favorite stock: the oil company Occidental Petroleum. He now owns shares worth $13 billion. Three stocks are brand new in the Berkshire portfolio, and the star investor has completely separated from four stocks:
