“The world looks at our country” – Federal President Steinmeier appoints the ministers

Handelsblatt reporter Daniel Delhaes has exclusive information on the distribution of power among the ministries:

The organizational decree of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) sees clearly more competencies for the Ministry of Transport before. In future it will no longer be called “Transport and Digital Infrastructure”, but rather the Ministry for “Digital and Transport”. The decree is available to the Handelsblatt.

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck will transfer the digital policy department to the new digital department. Its head, Stefan Schnorr, is to become digital state secretary, as the Handelsblatt reports. The digital skills from the Chancellery are also being transferred to the new digital ministry.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) is to take over the consolidation of federal IT, which has been faltering for years. It must hand over the competencies for construction to the new “Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction”.

Minister Klara Geywitz will obviously not be responsible for the area of building renovation and thus climate protection in the building sector. The Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Habeck, is responsible for climate protection. International climate policy is the responsibility of Annalena Baerbock in the Foreign Office (Green).

Both tasks come from the Ministry of the Environment, which in turn will be responsible for full consumer protection and also for product safety. The area of bureaucracy reduction and responsibility for the Regulatory Control Council will also move to the house of Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP).
