Uxbridge The VW T-Roc has probably finally surpassed the VW Golf in sales figures in Europe. After taking the top spot in July, the compact SUV also took first place in the list of most registered new cars in the EU in August, according to the consulting firm Jato. A total of 15,953 new T-Rocs rolled onto the road.

Second place goes to the Peugeot 208 with 15,146 new registrations, third place to the Dacia Sandero, which registered 14,830 times. With 12,271 new registrations, the long-standing all-time bestseller Golf only came sixth behind the Fiat 500 and Toyota Yaris.

Popular cars in 2022: The VW T-Roc has left the VW Golf behind

Before and after there have been many leadership changes, propelling Dacia Sandero and Tesla Model 3 to the top, among others. In the past two months, the VW T-Roc has held pole position. The statistical descent of the Golf comes as no surprise, not even for VW itself.

On the one hand, the group announced its compact electric car ID.3 months ago as the designated successor to the Golf, on the other hand, the in-house competition in the form of the T-Roc, ID.4 and Taigo has recently grown significantly. Against this background, it is also unclear so far whether the series will get a successor again.
