The traffic light government is aiming for space

Berlin Four dry lines in their coalition agreement do not suggest that the traffic light government is aiming for space. Space and the commercial providers summarized under the heading “New Space” are acknowledged as “central future technologies”. And the European Space Agency (ESA) is mentioned as well as a new space strategy.

However, because the only concrete reference deals with the “salvage of space debris”, the program of the SPD, Greens and FDP does not read very ambitious.

In this area too, however, the Federal Government must react to the completely changed international environment. “We are also experiencing a turning point in space, where Europe’s security is also increasingly threatened,” emphasizes Kai-Uwe Schrogl, ESA’s special representative for political affairs, in an interview with the Tagesspiegel: “The Chinese and Russians have already shown us how vulnerable about our satellite communication so far.”
