The recession is coming – we need a debate about the German business model

The situation could hardly be bleaker: the German economic institutes outdo each other in bad forecasts. In their joint diagnosis, which the leading institutes will present on Thursday, there will be a minus before economic growth for 2023. The German economy is expected to shrink by 0.4 percent.

All forecasters now agree that the recession is coming. It has even started, the German economy is already shrinking. This is a cause for concern, yes, even for panic at times. After the corona crisis, the economic scheme should now actually show an upswing, and properly so. A minus of 0.4 percent may not sound like much, but it is if the hope was originally for a plus of three, four or five percent.
