Zurich High freight prices and dry weather in South America mean that prices for many agricultural commodities will continue to rise. The price of Arabica coffee was trading at just under $ 2.50 per pound on Thursday – the highest level in ten years. Arabica coffee has risen by more than 100 percent within twelve months.

Dealers named the logistics chaos as a price driver to the Reuters news agency. Currently it is difficult to ship coffee from South America to Europe or the USA, where most of the coffee is consumed. “Nobody sells coffee, neither on the futures market nor on the spot market,” a trader told the Reuters news agency.

At the same time, dry weather at the time of sowing in Brazil means that the crop yields of this important agricultural commodity exporter have clouded over.
