The Olympic Village in Elstal is experiencing new life

In 1936, around 4,000 top athletes from all over the world gathered in the Olympic Village.

Berlin The hare looks at the visitors in amazement, mumbling for a moment, then hopping purposefully into the blackberry bush. Visitors have become rare in this part of the 1936 Olympic Village.

The DKB Foundation used to offer guided tours of the area in Elstal. There was an exhibition, a sports field, a gym – and the Jesse Owens House could be visited. The centerpiece is the swimming pool, the side wall of which can be raised. What is still chic today was a real sensation in 1936.

At the end of 2019, the DKB Foundation ceased its activities in Elstal. Now this part of the village rests while the construction machines roar a few steps further. The 550,000 square meter area is divided. The first completed street in that part of the village that is now residential area was named Jesse-Owens-Ring, named after the exceptional athlete of the Olympic Games.
