Cologne For around ten years, prosecutors have been looking for bankers, consultants and investors who have plundered the state treasury with illegal stock deals. They don’t run out of work, on the contrary. At the Cologne Public Prosecutor’s Office alone, the number of preliminary investigations has increased significantly: 105 cases are currently pending there – around a quarter more than previously known. The number of accused rose to 1,350.
The public prosecutor’s office in Cologne is not the only investigative authority that has dealt with the cum-ex affair under criminal law. Such cases are also on the table in Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart. North Rhine-Westphalia has a special position in dealing with the tax scandal.
