Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu made some statements at the Communication Technologies Cluster 5G Phase 2 Information Meeting, which he attended today. Among the ones that attracted the most attention were Turkey’s 5G progress and the number of users offered broadband support, especially fiber internet.

Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu announced that the number of subscribers using mobile services has reached 87 million and the number of broadband internet subscribers has reached 87.5 million. In this context, the number of users who prefer fiber internet is 5 million. Of course, it was stated that approximately 16 million people benefited in the context of households.
When we look at the number of households reached by all cable internet options together with the fiber infrastructure, it is said that the communication infrastructure has reached the capacity to provide speeds of 100 Mbps and above, to approximately 3 times the current 5 million subscribers, that is, to 15 million subscribers.

Türksat 5B satellite, which was put into service 9 days ago, has a wide coverage area that will include the entire Middle East, the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean, North and East Africa, Nigeria, South Africa and regions of its close neighbors. In this way, high-speed broadband internet service will be provided in all regions.
Compared to the current Ka-Band data transmission, ie compared to previous satellites, a data stream of over 15 times will be offered. It was also said that thanks to this satellite internet technology, the internet infrastructure in areas that cannot be accessed by terrestrial infrastructure will be expanded. On the speed side, a data transmission of over 55 Gbps will be carried out in total.
In addition, it was said in the past years that fiber internet will be brought to Turkey by the end of 2023. However, in the statement made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in April, it was understood that the infrastructure transformation of the entire country would be completed by 2053. But especially in big cities, this process will progress faster.
