In modern capitalism, attention has become a commodity.

Anyone who walked through East Berlin in 1990, shortly after the opening of the GDR, for example at Prenzlauer Berg, which is so illustrious today, saw a gray city. This was not only due to the weather, the lignite and the partly neglected buildings. But also because there was a lack of the brightly colored advertising on billboards that is common in the West.

In socialism there was no compulsion to attract attention, which is felt today more than ever, almost every second. We can hardly imagine such a world today.

Under socialism, power was concentrated in the party. Excluding Western imports, money played a subordinate role; Otherwise, as is still the case in today’s Russia, power is money.
