Especially with old videos, there is a big problem of resolution. With 4K and 8K videos, 144P, 360P and 480P resolutions seem very outdated today. Microsoft Edge is preparing to bring a solution to this situation.
Microsoft Edge will increase video resolutions
Edge Canary, the version of Microsoft Edge that allows users to test and provide feedback on features that are still under development, comes up with a new feature. Microsoft Edge Canary now has a feature still in testing phase that lets you upscale low resolution videos.
Microsoft said in a statement that one in three videos played in Microsoft Edge has a resolution of 480p or lower. By increasing the resolution of these videos, it is aimed to make the text easier to read and improve the overall viewing experience.
Edge’s handy feature comes to Google Chrome!
Google Chrome will allow you to close tabs with a double click. A similar feature is known to exist in Edge.
The system, called Video Super Resolution (VSR), increases the resolution of videos to 720P. The system uses machine learning, artificial intelligence and graphics card to make this upgrade. The system requirements specified for VSR are not low at all. In order to use this system, at least an NVIDIA RTX 20 series or AMD RX5700 graphics card is needed.
The features specified by Microsoft to use VSR are as follows:
- Nvidia RTX 20/30/40 series or AMD RX5700-RX7800 series graphics card
- Video must be 480P or lower resolution
- The device must be plugged in
- Both the height and width of the video must be greater than 192 pixels
- The system does not use content that is not protected by Digital Rights Management technologies such as PlayReady or Widevine.
- If the system requestsedge://flags/#edge-video-super-resolutionIt can be run with the ‘ command.
Let us remind you that this system, which promises to significantly increase the resolution of videos, is still in the testing phase.
