The less fortunate Ionos IPO and its importance for the IPO year 2023

Dusseldorf What was happening? In the midst of a fairly friendly market environment, the internet service provider Ionos had a rather unsuccessful IPO at the beginning of February 2023. At EUR 18.40, the share started below its issue price, which was at the lower end of the price range at which the company had offered its shares to investors. By the same evening, the price had dropped to EUR 17.50, a month later it was only around EUR 15.70.

There are many reasons for this: on the one hand, technology stocks are generally not having an easy time on the stock exchange, and on the other hand, there have been hardly any IPOs for over a year.

“But above all, it is because investors are unsure how the economy, interest rates and geopolitics will develop and are therefore reluctant to invest in new issues,” says our corporate finance correspondent Arno Schütze in the current episode of Handelsblatt Deals . Newcomers on the floor are always a risk, because they have no history as listed companies from which conclusions can be drawn, and mostly little is known about their financial development in previous years.

In this episode you will hear what can be learned from the Ionos case, which IPOs (also known as IPOs) can still be expected for 2023 and which steps are usually required to get a company public.
