Berlin The shortage of materials on the German construction sites is easing a little. In December, 31.3 percent of companies complained about delivery problems in building construction, after 34.5 percent in the previous month. This is the result of a company survey published by the Ifo Institute on Friday.

In civil engineering, 23.1 percent are affected, after 28.7 percent in November. “Despite the current improvements, the situation remains tense,” said Ifo researcher Felix Leiss, summarizing the results. “In a long-term comparison, the values are still exceptionally high.”

In the case of wood and steel, there is a certain relaxation. Nevertheless, bottlenecks were reported in both cases. According to the information, the situation with insulation material and plastic products remains problematic.

“The significantly increased material prices put the construction companies under additional pressure,” said Leiss. “In building construction in particular, companies are planning to pass the costs on to the building owners in the coming months.” But price adjustments are also being targeted in many places in civil engineering.
