PlayStation exclusive Helldivers has been doing big on PC with its second installment, even breaking records for Sony’s best launch ever. However, recent reports have shown that Helldivers 2 has seen its player count on PC drop, with active players on Steam down by 90 percent.
Helldivers 2 player count decreased by 90 percent
Player count data from SteamDB revealed that Helldivers 2 suffered a popularity loss of around 90 percent. Four months after its release, there was a huge decline in the player base. So what is the reason behind this decline?

Helldivers 2 reached a large audience in early 2024 and became one of PlayStation’s biggest productions. The game created excitement with its unique strategic team-based gameplay and achieved significant success with its post-launch events.
The game’s momentum seems to have decreased considerably on Steam. Helldivers 2 reached over 458 thousand concurrent players on Steam shortly after its release. However, it was stated that the number of players did not exceed 45 thousand during this weekend.
While 45,000 players is still a large number for most games, there’s no denying that Helldivers 2 has seen a sharp drop. The reason for this drop is unclear, but it could be related to Sony’s requirement to link Steam accounts with PSN accounts.

It is also thought that after four months, players may have become bored with Helldivers 2. We will see in time how this downward trend will be reflected on the PlayStation side.
