The first freighter trip from the Ukraine becomes a debacle

Berlin When the Razoni freighter departed from the port of Odessa bound for Lebanon last week, politicians from around the world celebrated the departure as a beacon of hope in the fight against hunger.

The Razoni, carrying 26,000 tons of corn, was the first ship allowed to leave Ukraine under the Istanbul Grain Deal. But in Lebanon, which urgently needs grain imports, the “Razoni” has not arrived.

Instead, she is anchored in the eastern Mediterranean and has her cargo put up for sale. The corn on board the “Razoni” is not even intended for bread, but for chicken feed.
