Berlin From 2023, the federal government can earn around seven billion euros more with the truck toll. However, it will only be 665 million euros that the state is hoping for with slightly higher toll rates from the transport companies – provided they continue to drive more than three billion tons of goods and goods per year on motorways and federal roads.

After all, the federal government will collect more than eight billion euros for the first time. A proud sum, which the members of the German Bundestag will discuss this Thursday. But the biggest budget item is missing from the agenda: the climate toll, a surcharge of up to 100 percent on the truck toll. It will be permitted in the European Union from 2023, as will the option of no longer charging trucks from 7.5 tons in weight, but from 3.5 tons.
