The euphoria of the investors has evaporated

Beijing, New York China had the potential to become Wall Street’s new darling. The end of the zero-Covid policy, coupled with more business-friendly signals from the state leadership, raised great hopes among international investors. Hedge funds and other professional investors ventured back into Chinese stock markets. Even Morgan Stanley analysts, who had long urged caution, were still “increasingly bullish on Chinese stocks” at the end of January.

But the initial euphoria after the opening has already evaporated. After record capital inflows in January, foreign investment in mainland China’s stock exchanges fell sharply in February.
