The EU Commissioner wants to secure Europe’s leading role in hydrogen.

Brussels The EU Commission is ready to remove investment hurdles in the expansion of the hydrogen economy. “We must take a decision together with Parliament and the Council of Member States that will enable industry to act as quickly as possible,” said Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans at the Handelsblatt’s hydrogen summit update.

It is about the definition of “green” hydrogen. The Commission wanted to prescribe that the wind and solar systems must be newly built and connected with a specially laid cable. This is intended to prevent electricity requirements from being covered by coal and gas.

The EU Parliament, on the other hand, is demanding that electricity from the power grid may also be used. “Of course I have to work in harmony with Parliament,” said Timmermans.
