The end of ride pooling as a business model

Berlin It sounded like a departure when the Ruf-Fahrdienst Clevershuttle expanded its range in Leipzig in the summer with a new app (on demand), more payment options and travel times around the clock. At the end of the year, however, the end comes. The subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG ceases its driving service. From now on Clevershuttle will operate on behalf of local transport companies.

The move is associated with sadness, as Leipzig and Munich were the first locations where Clevershuttle started in 2016, as Bruno Ginnuth, co-founder and CEO of the young company, reported to the Handelsblatt. But giving up the previous business model in Leipzig is the logical end of the strategic realignment decided a year and a half ago: “We want to make local public transport more attractive with this new form of mobility.”
