“The danger is the culture”

Dusseldorf In the new episode of Handelsblatt Disrupt, editor-in-chief Sebastian Matthes talks to Simone Menne, member of the supervisory board and ex-CFO of Lufthansa, about the big questions of the time: the state of the German economy, the consequences of the Ukraine war and the looming trade conflict with the USA . “We don’t have to produce everything in Germany, but we should have the know-how and the technology,” says Menne.

The conversation goes far beyond geopolitics and corporate strategies: Menne also talks about how many people shy away from conflicts and about the highlights and setbacks of their careers. As a former CFO, she learned above all why critical feedback is so important, especially for managers, and calls for a new form of error culture in corporations. “The danger is the culture,” she says.

Menne also emphasizes the importance of disruptive thinking as a source of innovation. In doing so, it relies primarily on young start-ups. “We will not see the disruptive innovations in the large corporations,” says the manager.
