The countdown has begun for the Eastern Anatolia Observatory Telescope!

The countdown has begun for the Eastern Anatolian Observatory, or DAG Telescope, which will be the largest in Europe. For a while, the production of huge-sized lenses abroad was expected to be completed. Because due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the planned dates of such projects have been delayed for at least a year or two. But as of next August, the testing process begins.

The countdown has begun for the Eastern Anatolia Observatory Telescope!

As a result of the project, which was first implemented by Atatürk University, it was started to be built in 2012 at an altitude of 3,170 meters in the Palandöken district of Erzurum. Eastern Anatolia Observatory Europe’s largest telescope is placed inside.

The lenses of this telescope were specially made in Italy. The 4-meter mirror with a special coating was brought from Russia. In other words, the latest technology products from all over the world were gathered at the request of scientists. In this way, Turkey’s Europe’s largest infrared telescope was established.

NASA has announced that it will publish the color photos taken by James Webb at 17:30 Turkey time today.

It was originally scheduled to become operational in 2020. However, as we mentioned, problems such as the pandemic caused the entire operation to sag. For this reason, its opening was postponed first to 2021 and then to 2022. But that wait is finally over. Because the first tests will be done in August.

But for those who want to visit this observatory early, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank gave good news. A sky observation event will be held on 22-23 July in the Palandöken district of Erzurum, at the location of the Eastern Anatolia Observatory.

Although there are no infrared telescopes with 4-meter lenses, the sky and space will be observed quite clearly. A similar event was held in Diyarbakır Zerzevan Castle between 9-12 June.
