“So listen to the advice of several experts,” says Michael Sohni, who teaches civil engineering at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences.

Builders should avoid seven mistakes on their own construction site so that their project does not turn into a financial and legal nightmare.

1. Imprecisely negotiated construction contract

Finding out, collecting ideas and comparing: These are the first steps for every builder and generally everyone who wants to modernize or refurbish their home. The last point in particular, the comparison, takes a lot of time, because ideally there are several offers from construction companies on the table.

“Check every offer in peace and don’t let yourself be tempted to make quick decisions because one entrepreneur is a little cheaper than the other,” advises real estate expert Sohni.
