That’s why Frankfurt is slipping down in the city ranking

Frankfurt was hit particularly hard by the corona pandemic: jobs had to be cut at both Frankfurt Airport and Messe Frankfurt.

The stock exchange, banks, Germany’s largest airport, an important hub for long-distance trains – actually, Frankfurt has everything to be prepared for the future.

But in the latest edition of what is probably the most important German regional ranking, Frankfurt has been relegated from the Champions League: In the Prognos Zukunftsatlas 2022, Frankfurt slipped from tenth place to 20th place among the 400 administrative districts and urban districts in the republic.

The city no longer belongs in the category with the “best chances” – even if the economic institute Prognos Frankfurt continues to attest “very good chances” for positive economic development. Why the Main metropolis is sinking in the city ranking.
