Dusseldorf The number of unreported cases is high: Neither companies nor private individuals like to admit that they have become victims of cybercriminals. But the cases that have become public also show that this form of crime has increased significantly.
The spectrum ranges from blackmail to theft of ideas, infrastructure blockades to digital bank robberies. The perpetrators are becoming more and more professional and have often been politically motivated since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
Cyber criminals use various digital tools to break into someone else’s computer system. The most popular are malware, DDOS attacks (network overload) or attacks on passwords.
Organized crime has long since discovered the virtual space for itself, as large sums of money can be stolen here relatively unnoticed. But hacktivists and foreign secret services also look for vulnerabilities in the network in order to obtain information or cause damage.
