Berlin Wednesday of this week is a day full of surprises. The future Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner provides one of these surprises: The FDP leader quotes the great social democrat Egon Bahr. Olaf Scholz has an “inner railing” to lead the country with a clear set of values ​​and to represent more people than those who would have chosen red, yellow and green, says Lindner. “That is why Olaf Scholz will be a strong Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.”

The likely-soon-to-be-Chancellor looks a bit puzzled on the stage in Berlin’s Westhafen-Center in view of so much praise, then continues in his sober Hanseatic way. The 177-page coalition agreement is not about a policy of the lowest common denominator: “We want to dare to make more progress.”
