Thanks to the pleasure of vacationing and the USA: Frankfurt Airport is taking off again! | Regional

Frankfurt – Finally an upswing after the corona crash! Germany’s largest airport again counts around 50 percent of the passengers from the pre-pandemic era. But not everything is going smoothly yet …

“I ask for your understanding if planes don’t go out on time, if passengers have to wait longer for their luggage and if it takes longer to check travel documents,” says Fraport boss Dr. Stefan Schulte (61). At the same time, he makes a “huge compliment” to all employees who “really got their feet deep”.

Driving up to Corona is complicated. Instead of up to 240,000 passengers per day, there were only 9,500 at Easter 2020. Gradually, the balance rose to 130,000 on the weekends. Thanks to vacation fun and short trips.

In addition, the planes take off and land in waves. At its peak, the airport has 90 percent occupancy. Around 5 p.m. it’s just 20 percent.

Great hopes rest on the opening of the USA from November 8th. 17 destinations are served. Stefan Schulte expects up to 400,000 passengers this month alone.

“We’re not fully back yet, but things are starting again with force,” says Fraport boss Dr. Stefan Schulte (61)

Conclusion: “It starts again with force.”

400 new employees on the ground have already been hired – from aircraft handlers to check-in.

The airport boss is even expecting 500 to 1000 new hires in the next six months. Fraport takes off again!
