Dusseldorf The auto industry has been taking Rivian seriously around the world, at least since its IPO. The electric car maker raised $ 12 billion and, with a current market capitalization of $ 112 billion, became the fifth most valuable automaker in the world.
Electric car pioneer Tesla has been taking Rivian seriously for a long time. The companies both have a lot of employees in California – and have been arguing for months before the state court in Santa Clara.
Tesla is suing Rivian there under file number 20CV368472. It’s about trade secrets, theft, the US constitution – and about Franz Kafka, whom the judge Socrates Manoukian apparently likes to read: “This case is like a novel by him.”
Specifically, Tesla is suing a handful of employees who switched to Rivian. According to the electric car manufacturer, they were instructed to take confidential documents with them. There is a “disturbing pattern of employees who switch to Rivian and steal trade secrets,” says the indictment that the Handelsblatt has received.
